Terminal 5 - June 11th, 2008
Since having moved beyond the teenager realm to adulthood, for the most part I've never felt so old - being in a closed space, packed in with so damn many of them. Nevertheless, we enjoyed ourselves, and our British darlings "The Kooks" were terrific live. If we could ignore the fact that some 'tard tried to crowd surf within the first 5 minutes of the show (c'mon) and the chanting soccer hooligans, it would have been a perfect experience.
Opening band, "The Morning Benders" were alright. Pleasant beats that kind of all sounded the same by the third song. The most memorable thing for me was how the lead singer kept bobbing his head in and out like a turtle. It's nice that they personally sold copies of their albums and mingled with the crowds after the show. Now, if "The Kooks" did that ... I do not think I would be alive right now.
Although they do not hold the same place in my heart as they did a couple years back, seeing "The Kooks" perform was a much overdue experience. Didn't really understand what Luke was mumbling into the mic all night but that was alright with me as I was pretty thrilled any way you put it. I must say I didn't really care for the headband garb, but I get it, he's 'indie'.
Now, some random kid trying to take advantage of the crowd ain't so hot, but when the lead singer steps onto the palms of these kids as they raise him like God while he is midway through a kickass encore performance is quite a kicker (which is what happened too).
