Teehee

Also check out this guy's work - he excels in captions and felt tip pens. I especially like the concept of "A Turnover for Many and a Bit of Luck for One"

Sale!

I have swell times browsing the designs at Threadless. Right now all tees are $12 for their back to school sale. (note: some of these are printed on American Apparel shirts, which cost more if you just buy them from the store)

And these are the ones I ordered:

Assembly instructions better be included

Bought this for my room. Think I'm going to put it above my bed. It'll add to the grown-up look my new IKEA furniture already evokes ... because I am an add-dult now, and not a minus-dult.

Recycling is Golden

I love that these precious pendants are made from discarded toys and such. It's like a Cinderella story - from rags to riches, or in this case from junk to 24 carat gold.

This is true ...

Healing Powers

I'm not very partial to old wives tales about the spiritual healing powers of crystals, but because the look of the pendants at "Unearthen" are so awesome I am willing to reconsider. The raw cuts of delicious coloured crystals are placed in what looks like bullet shells. My favorite is the "Green Thumb". Time for a trip to Opening Ceremony!
Also, love the design and interaction of their website; you can click on each crystal and a larger image with details of the so called 'benefits' will pop-up.

Dem Boyz in Skinny Jeanz

Music Hall of Williamsburg - July 15th, 2008

I LOVE these fellas. I remember the first time I heard "Seventeen Years" my heart skipped a beat - it shouted "yes! this is what resonates with your internal rhythm" ... something like that. Hailing from Brooklyn, these boys are the epitome of the hipster-messy-nonchalant-look (please reference the denim wrapped needle-thin legs and dominating facial hair).
Although of course, their image is nothing compared to their mad beats and guitar skills. The way Mike flails his arms with theatrical precision as he creates their signature melodies on his guitar is quite amusing/hypnotic.
The concert mostly covered their new album "LP3", which sounds more toned down than their usual fare. It's not my fav as a whole but def contains stand out tracks - check out "Shempi" which has been living on my playlist for a bit. And obv. they wooed the crowd with their singles from previous albums.
Its funny how much I'm in love with them now when the first time I heard these boys 'play' was 2 or 3 yrs ago back when they opened for "Goldfrapp". All they did was stand behind a Mac and drink beer ... it left me unsatisfied and asking "what is this BS?". (Lesson learned: original repertoire dominates lame remixes).

The concert also restored my faith in mankind, or specifically, the mankind of our cruel NYC. As I was dancing around I must have dropped my camera case, which contained my debit card, state ID, camera adaptor - all quite vital items in my life. In my tipsy stupor, it took me about a full 20 min after the show to realize that I was walking around with a camera, alas naked without its case. Immediately sped back and checked the venue from top to bottom, but I came away empty-handed :(. Having resigned myself to taking a trip to the DMV later that I week, I was surprised to find a feat of impossibility propped on the door knob of my apt the next day. Some honest soul brought my camera case back and right to my front door no less. I physically LOL-ed in my hallway. Pretty neat, eh? Thanks to whoever you are! (Although, how did you get into my building?)

Visions of the 1930s

Now that I live in Brooklyn and have a 'commute' to work I have been gettin' my read on. Just finished "Water for Elephants" by Sara Gruen. Despite a somewhat predictable plot concerning love and adversity it's worth the read. Set in the bygone era of America's Great Depression and the days of old circus glamour, Gruen manages to create circus characters that evoke humanity more than caricature; her writing comes out especially in her empathetic depictions of more senior folk. The book was inspired by pictures from the heyday of circus trains; and is filled with 'true' amusing anecdotes of circus life. Lets hope that when they adapt this to movie (cuz I just know they will), it will live up to our expectations and visuals of the gritty glamour of life back then.

Apartment Fetish

Not gonna lie - I love seeing the inside of people's apartments. Walking down the street I find myself trippping from craning my neck too much at windows I pass by - not in the creepy way ... I hope. Especially in NYC, where (most) people are such characters, the living space becomes another representation of your person - defining personal tastes, organizational skills (or lack thereof), weird interests, etc.

This is why I'm lovin' http://www.theselby.com/
Todd Selby photographs the living spaces of some (famous-ish) persons and manages to capture their personalities in their worldly possessions and ultimate comfort zone.

Here are some pics from one of my fav bands at the mo - "Heartsrevolution". (How disgustingly cute are they? I can't compete. Or more like, please adopt me, I will play with Tiger)

Who watches the Watchmen?

I damn will ... when it comes out that is. Scheduled for a March 2009 release this movie is going to be BIG.

Just finished the graphic novel this weekend - not for the faint of heart. Currently #9 on Amazon.com.
