Happy Halloween Folks!

Double Duty

I should probably get this for the BF. He can be his klutzy self but still look smart ...

Trick or Treat

In the spirit of Halloween ... here are some glorious pictures of candy. I want to stuff my mouth, but having just come back from the dentist with numerous fillings I'm going to try and control myself.

Unhealthy Addictions

I need this, my finger is already tingling!

Convo

Our new offices are kind of weird, and for lack of space, they are stashing drinks and snacks in the file cabinets next to the cubes.

R.do: I can use another apple juice
Me: If I could actually reach the drawers I would throw one in your office ... but you're technically closer
R.do: There's a door in my way
Me: But I have a cubicle wall ... that cannot be opened

Double Strength

Oh man. We need to be friends.

Abbreviations

I recently had a conversation with a coworker that went smth like:

Me: Seems like this game doesn't have a date attached to it
Coworker: 10-4
Me: Wait, that's the date we're launching it? Huh?

Actually, my coworker was utilizing Citizen's Band (CB) Ten-codes in daily-speak.
Ten-codes, properly known as ten signals, are code words used to represent common phrases in voice communication, particularly by law enforcement and in Citizen's Band (CB) radio transmissions.

[Via]

Switch up your dry conversations with some of these plausible examples of ten-codes:
10-4: Roger that; message received
10-6: Busy (ex. 10-6, go away)
10-7: Out of service (ex. 10-7, no more work, no mooore ...)
10-9: Repeat message (aka. whadusay?)

The Sound of Gossip

Desperate Measures

The McCain campaign is now using extreme robo-calls to smear Barack Obama. Listen to what this congress woman has to say and prepare to be shocked at what type of people get elected into government.
Minnesota Rep. Michelle Bachmann claimed on Friday that Barack Obama and his wife Michelle held anti-American views and couldn't be trusted in the White House. She even called for the major newspapers of the country to investigate other members of Congress to "find out if they are pro-America or anti-America."

Crafty

Tara Donovan is my fav artist of the month for sure. She takes ordinary materials and transforms them into something extraordinary. (It looks so fun to create - hands up to those who used to make Elmer's glue patches in the 1st grade just for the hell of it...)

Material: Styrofoam Cups

Material: Elmer's Glue

Material: Buttons

Kings & Queens

I also learned today that Brooklyn is part of "Kings County". Useful knowledge when it comes to voting, and checking your voter-registration status here:

Jackalope Day

Happy Columbus Day to the lucky bitches who aren't stuck at work. Otherwise, it's another mundane Monday - but it's not completely hopeless as I just discovered the "existence" of the Jackalope.
Q: What is a Jackalope?
A: The Antler-ed Bunny

Now I want one to mount on my wall to replace this.
Please note they also come in different variaties. This winged version originates from Wall, South Dakota (sounds like an awful place to live)

This fascinating creature has made it to movie-like stardom in roles such as "Jackalope" of Oscar-nominated Pixar short "Boundin'".

I was also alerted by a coworker of the French counterpart "The Dahu".
Q: What is a Dahu?
A: A mountain goat-like animal with legs of differing lengths

A less superior creature than the Jackalope, the Dahu hails from the French Alps. And because it has shorter legs on one side, it can only walk around the mountain in one direction otherwise it falls...

One method of capture:

To have pepper ground onto a large stone; when the dahu, while grazing, comes and sniffs the pepper, it would sneeze and knock itself out against the stone.

Messed Up

A week after the government spent $85 billion dollars bailing out AIG, execs went on a retreat at a luxury resort spending $443,343.71.

So Wrong It's Right

Ugliness & hilariously for a cause.
The high quality duvet cover features a photographic print of a cardboard box and is made of pure soft cotton. A large proportion of the proceeds from the Le Clochard duvet cover go to SZN, the foundation for homeless youngsters in the Netherlands.
If someone got me this I think I would slap them and hug them.
Coworker: "it looks straight out of Zoolander's Derelicte series!"

The only time in my life I've wanted to be Lil Wayne.

Lil Wayne received a suitcase containing one million dollars for his birthday from fellow Cash Money Millionaire Birdman aka Bryan “Baby” Williams.

Filling the Void

There is still hope for music that is better than just alright:

No and the Maybes - reminds me of fellow exceptional Danish band "Mew"
Fear of Tigers - a source for delicious electro
Cocorosie - "god has a voice she speaks through me" is magical
Young Lovers - "talking french" and "the people" worth a listen
Kings of Leon - "sex on fire" is the only good song on the new album (but it is pretty damn good)
TV on the Radio - I am in support of the entire "Dear Science" album (concert Oct.16 - exciiited)

Busy Times

Wow, I only posted 7 times in Sept. My most neglectful month to date. I feel like a trainwreck.

Visuals

I would gladly pay whatever premium it takes to go to a cinema designed like this (and then stay after the movie ends to take pictures ...) This particular "Light House Cinema" can be found in Dublin.

[Via]

On a semi-related note, I recently got Netflix and it successfully turned me into a homebody for the past 2 weekends. I love their 'watch instantly' option. Whoever came up with the idea of 'marathoning' TV shows is a trooper and I would gladly sign up for that Olympic sport.

Honorable mentions on queue that have gained my patronage and require your viewership:
City of God - Cinematography and story line both beyond awesome. Based on a true story that remains relevant to this day. (Sidenote: Benny is the cutest thing).
2046 - One of my fav 'savour-the-moment' flicks. Wong Kar Wai creates the most longing sensual ambient shots. (Sidenote: Zhang Ziyi is admirably hot in this. I need to get a qi-pao tailored and wear my hair up in a luscious beehive).
The Diving Bell and the Butterfly - Motivational movie of the month - but done in a zen-like, beautiful, non-cheesy way. (Sidenote: Learned what a "locked-in syndrome" is).
